Presents the European Charm in Black and White
20 Jun 24
Koko Mare, a brand new luxurious residential development in Lam Tin, Kowloon, embodies the pinnacle of interior design. Curated by the visionary chief editor of a high-profile fashion magazine, this compact urban oasis pulsates with unwavering commitment to aesthetic excellence and a dual design directive: a sense of European elegance and a captivating homage to the legendary Japanese fashion designer, Mr. Yohji Yamamoto.
Eric Lai, our Senior Designer, shares an unyielding dedication to perfection akin to that of our esteemed client. With an impeccable eye for detail, Eric crafts a visual language that speaks volumes about the owner’s sophisticated taste by adopting the contemporary European style to this unit at Koko Mare in the timeless allure of black and white.
Attention is paid to every detail in the house, from the choice of materials to the intricacies of design elements. The dining table, cornices, and feature walls define the exclusive ambience of this characterised residence. In particular, against the backdrop of high humidity from the sea breeze in Lam Tin, the strategic use of plywood effortlessly withstands the challenging elements while retaining its aesthetic charm. Kudos to our designer, who has met and exceeded the demands of seaside living, creating a space for the client that is as enduring as it is captivating.
Embracing the overarching black and white palette, Eric specially selected soft furnishings with simple lines and contrasting colours to stick to the theme. In a skillful defiance of the potential coolness that a monochrome tone may evoke, the designer ingeniously harnesses the abundant natural light further. The infusion of sunlight from the natural vista around Koko Mare serves as a radiant counterbalance, ensuring the space exudes warmth and a welcoming ambience for visitors and owners. Warm wood flooring underfoot not only adds a touch of cosiness but also elevates the overall warmth of the room, creating an inviting atmosphere.
Crowning the living room with a touch of European elegance is the cornice — a meticulous detail that harks back to classical architecture. This ornate moulding, adorned with a repetitive pattern, introduces a sense of refinement and sophistication to the space.
On top of the meticulously selected stylish furniture, the living room boasts a singularly distinctive feature — a large, round-edged marble wall that defies convention. Serving as both a work of art and a functional focal point, this wall houses an electric fireplace insert, casting a warm glow against its opulent surface. The simulated warm fire light of the virtual flames offers a note of comfort, turning the living space into a haven where the client can unwind and find inspiration for the next creative endeavour.
It is not just about aesthetics; it is about creating a space that feels alive. The living space, with its thoughtful design elements, becomes a haven where the interplay of light, style, and nature transforms it into a timeless retreat that a busy editor deserves.
The dining area will be predominantly renovated with a black and white colour scheme, in stark contrast to the naturally bright and airy ambience of the living room. The designer has deliberately chosen to incorporate more black tones, creating a more intimate and cosy atmosphere for dining, allowing customers to truly enjoy their meals and quality time with family and friends. At the heart of this bespoke enclave sits a dining table carefully crafted to perfection. As suggested by our designer, the dining table is finished with a Carrara marble stone top. The opulent top, paired with European-inspired legs adorned with intricate thread detailing, introduces a delicate contrast to the environment.
The kitchen takes form as a semi-open sanctuary in modern French style, a shared vision between designer and owner, seamlessly integrating into the living space and encouraging a dynamic flow of interactions for social gatherings. The pièce de résistance of this culinary domain is the thoughtfully designed bar table, a space where the client can savour a cup of Café Allongé while working on editorial tasks or unwind while gazing out at the captivating sea view. This semi-open kitchen transcends its utilitarian role, transforming into a versatile hub where culinary artistry and relaxation converge, creating a harmonious balance in the daily rhythm of fashionable life.
The bedroom design exudes a European fashionable aesthetic with a sense of layering. The wall behind the bed features three different materials—wood grain, stripes, and marble — that create a clear layering effect. This prevents the black and white colour palette from appearing flat, highlighting the depth and injecting a European fashionable aura into the room.
The ceiling features a moulding design echoing the living room, extending the elegant European ambience throughout the space. A captivating handmade ceiling rose takes centre stage, showcasing a beautiful traditional European design that adds a timeless touch. Last but not least, Eric selected a bedside table with a Roman column-inspired design, enhancing the allure of the bedroom with European style.
This stylishly appointed bathroom, with its dark tones, marble accents, and thoughtful design elements, transforms into a drip of sophistication and modern elegance. Marble on the floor and walls elevates simplicity with a touch of opulence. The cornice runs seamlessly along the ceiling, ensuring a smooth transition echoing the overall understated elegance.
An eye-catching focal point is the half-moon full-height mirror, exuding a sense of luxury and style. Enhanced by a penetrating LED lighting system from behind, it becomes a source of atmospheric illumination. The warm and inviting glow elevates the bathroom's glam to the next level.
In sum, this interior idea of Koko Mare’s new unit showcases an intricate balance between interior design mastery and strategic functionality. By incorporating thoughtful furniture pieces and a semi-open kitchen, this renovation project at Koko Mare not only reflects the owner's visionary style but also stands as a hallmark of contemporary living at its finest.
