Nestled along the coastal expanse of Wu Kai Sha, New Territories, the magnificent three-storey house in St. Barths stands as a beacon of refined living and understated elegance. With approximately 70 terraced houses, all residents of St. Barths enjoy tranquil surroundings and panoramic sea views while indulging in the luxurious amenities of the clubhouse.
The client for this project is an entrepreneur. Beyond the glitz and glamour of his career success, this esteemed client's care and gratitude towards his family are equally touching. For him, achievements are not solely his own but are shared with his devoted wife. He wants to show his heartfelt gratitude to his wife, who has been silently supporting him. His wife sacrificed her career to become a full-time mother, taking care of their beloved child and family, which has allowed him to focus wholeheartedly on his career without any worries.
The designer took the inspiration of "love" to create a splendid and practical warm home. Neutral colour palettes and luxurious yet durable materials strike a balance between opulence and practicality, fostering harmonious family living. In terms of layout, there were two major changes, including adding a sleek lift and adjusting the master bedroom and family area, thereby enhancing the overall functionality of the home.
The design concept of the living room and dining room is primarily based on the idea of “Luxury Elegance,” which our client fancies. Neutral colour tones take the lead, creating a comfortable and tranquil ambiance that allows the elegance of the furnishings and design details to shine.
The dining area features a warm and stylish brown colour as the base, creating an understated luxurious atmosphere throughout the space. A simple yet grand marble dining table takes centre stage, complemented by exquisite grey cushioned dining chairs, making the dining room more comfortable and elegant. Additionally, the stylish pendant light with its heartbeat shape above the dining table was carefully selected by our designer. This piece adds a touch of fashion while symbolising the rhythm of family life, beating together in harmony with the warmth and laughter that fills the dining area, creating a space where cherished moments are shared and celebrated.
The living room area deliberately uses brighter neutral colour tones compared to the dining room, establishing a visual contrast with the darker colour scheme of the dining area. This distinction cleverly divides the two spaces while seamlessly blending them within the overall design. The lighter colour palette in the living area complements the abundant natural light streaming in through large windows, further enhancing the sense of openness and tranquillity. Sheer curtains in a lighter shade of neutral gently filter the sunlight, adding a soft and ethereal quality to the space and creating a cosy ambiance that allows you to enjoy precious moments interacting with family.
A screen was requested by the client to be placed right in front of the main entrance as a specific decoration. Hence, our interior designer carefully selected a fluted glass panel for the screen. This choice enhances the aesthetic appeal and redefines the spatial experience of the entryway. With its ethereal texture and lighting effects, the glass panel brings a delicate and layered feeling to those entering the house
A private lift has been added to the three-storey house, representing a significant enhancement to its accessibility and convenience. This thoughtful upgrade not only modernises the home but also allows every member of the family to easily move between floors.
Working closely with the structural engineering team, our designer strategically integrated the lift into the slightly wider staircase area, seamlessly connecting it with other spaces. This approach helps to preserve the overall aesthetic and harmony of the house effortlessly.
The newly-built elevator signifies precious care and protection for the client and his family. Whether providing easy access for elderly parents or facilitating housework on different floors for the client's wife, the elevator makes everyone's life more unrestricted and barrier-free. It enhances the quality of life for our client’s loved ones, providing them with a more convenient, comfortable, and enjoyable living environment.
The other important space transformation in the house is to convert the original junior master bedroom on the first floor into our client’s private space, allowing him to fully indulge in fine wines and his passion for work.
Upon entering this reimagined space, one is immediately greeted by an ambiance of sophistication. The floor-to-ceiling bespoke built-in wine cabinet exquisitely displays the client's impressive collection of vintages from around the world. The LED backlighting strip along the ceiling gently illuminates the entire living space, creating a soft, ambient glow for the client to comfortably select wine or read documents.
The wall of the room has been replaced with a fluted glass panel, enhancing the overall aesthetic while maintaining privacy. The comfortable sofa paired with the luxurious marble TV wall creates a relaxed and cosy atmosphere, providing a rare sanctuary for both business discussions with colleagues and quiet contemplation alone.
The redesigned space reflects the client's unique taste and passion, with every detail thoughtfully considered, offering him a personalised private space that is exclusively his own.
The original junior master bedroom on the first floor has been transformed into a private sanctuary for the client. Therefore, the designer found an alternative space for the client's son and built a children's bedroom. Upon careful consideration, the designer discerned the family area on the first floor as the optimal choice for conversion, recognising its flexibility and suitability in terms of space requirements for creating a personalised bedroom for a young boy.
The design of the newly established son's room and the parents' bedroom both showcase the advantages of simplicity, functionality, and comfort. Clean lines and minimalist furnishings create a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. Both rooms provide ample storage space, including built-in wardrobes and under-bed storage, ensuring that belongings are neatly organised and easy to access, maximising space efficiency in the cosy rooms.
The master bedroom epitomises elegance and sophistication with its tasteful use of different shades of brown and brass metal accents. The rich chocolate colour and wooden panels complement each other perfectly, creating a warm and charming allure. Clean lines and minimalistic furnishings give the bedroom an elegant and sleek look, while thoughtful touches of brass add a touch of luxury and glamour to the space.
The subtle design of the master bedroom highlights the luxury and sophistication of the walk-in closet, along with a range of thoughtful design features. Neat custom shelving and cabinets line the walls of the walk-in closet, creating an elegantly appointed space for the hostess to neatly display her beloved clothing, shoes, and accessories. Next to the vanity table is a full-length mirror, providing a comfortable spot for the hostess to primp and groom herself at her convenience. Indeed, the thoughtful design goes even further. The marble jewellery drawers and built-in handbag racks allow the hostess to display her exquisite accessories in a luxurious and elegant way, adding an extra layer of indulgence.
The presence of the walk-in closet not only adds beauty to the master bedroom but also symbolises the husband's love and gratitude towards his wife. It is a space where his wife can indulge in dressing up and enjoying her “me time.” It allows her to feel like an elegant queen at home, surrounded by the symbolic evidence of the husband's love and gratitude.
